Okuyasu Nijimura
Also known as: Okuyasu
Okuyasu Nijimura is Josuke Higashikata's closest friend across Diamond Is Unbreakable and the franchise's clearest example of the loyal-second-banana sidekick archetype Araki has used across multiple Parts. His Stand The Hand can erase any object or space it touches with a single swipe — one of the franchise's most-absolute single-mechanic Stand abilities, structurally restricted by Okuyasu's modest tactical thinking.
Story
Diamond Is Unbreakable
Part 4 · 1999Okuyasu is introduced in the Nijimura-house arc as the younger of two Nijimura brothers — both ordered by their father (a Stone-Mask-aged half-vampire stored in a coffin in the basement) to find a healing Stand that could end his decades-long undeath. His older brother Keicho Nijimura is the Stand-Arrow distributor who awakens Koichi's Echoes and several other Morioh Stand users; Okuyasu's role across the arc is the physically imposing younger brother who defects to Josuke's side after the family's situation resolves.
After the Nijimura-arc conclusion Okuyasu becomes Josuke's closest friend and the Morioh crew's reliable melee combatant. His Stand The Hand provides the team with erasure-tier combat at melee range — Okuyasu can erase obstacles, weapons, or even sections of an opponent's body with a single swipe. The Stand's combat applications across Diamond Is Unbreakable's middle and back acts include the Red Hot Chili Pepper confrontations, the Cinderella interventions, and the final Kira battle in the Kawajiri house.
Powers & Abilities
The Hand
StandThe Hand is a humanoid Close-Range Stand whose right hand can erase space itself with a single swipe. The erasure removes any object or section of space between Okuyasu and his target, pulling the target toward Okuyasu through the resulting void. The mechanic is one of the franchise's most-absolute single-mechanic Stand abilities — limited only by Okuyasu's reach (The Hand's range is short) and by Okuyasu's relatively modest tactical thinking.
Combat applications scale from straightforward (erase obstacles, weapons, or sections of an opponent's body) to creative (erase the space between Okuyasu and a distant target to pull the target into melee range) to defensive (erase incoming projectiles before they can land). The Stand has been read by long-form JoJo critics as the franchise's structural argument that an absolute Stand ability paired with a non-strategic Stand User produces a combat profile less threatening than the same ability paired with a tactical thinker.

Trivia
- Okuyasu is the franchise's clearest articulation of the loyal-second-banana sidekick archetype — physically imposing, emotionally simple, completely committed to the protagonist. The character template is structurally inherited from Polnareff in Stardust Crusaders and inherited forward by Narancia in Vento Aureo.
- His Stand The Hand has one of the franchise's most-absolute single-mechanic abilities — erase space with a single swipe — but is paired with Okuyasu's modest tactical thinking as a deliberate structural constraint. The mechanic has been read as Araki's argument that an absolute ability paired with a non-strategic user produces less threat than the same ability with a tactical thinker.
- Okuyasu's relationship with his older brother Keicho is the franchise's only depicted brother-versus-brother Stand-user dynamic across Diamond Is Unbreakable. Keicho dies during the Nijimura-house arc, and Okuyasu's grief is one of the early-arc structural arguments that Stand-user conflict has lasting emotional cost.
- His Japanese voice actor in the 2016 anime is Wataru Takagi — best known outside JoJo for playing Genma Shiranui in Naruto. The casting was deliberately played for character resonance, with both characters sharing a loyal-imposing-second register that contrasts with their respective protagonists' more complex character voices.
